Traveling Through a Network

Ping: (Packet Internet Groper) this sends a small packet to a domain to see how long it will take to receive.  this will help you trouble shout any issues with the internet if the site you are going to is not responding.  the times on my example show the MS (milliseconds) for Google.com and Amazon.com.

Using the Ping command was simple following the instructions provided.

Traceroute: (tracert) show the path it travels to get to the domain.  This will identify where the packet may get lost or if there is a disconnect on the internet.  Some of the areas of failure may be firewalls, security, or if you are using a government computer.  The following examples I will provide show that after number 6 10.1.241.4 everything timed out after.  I can only assume right now that it is a firewall on the government side of the computer, since I am using one fore school.

Both command processes are very useful to help trouble shoot problems that you may encounter using the internet.  I know lots of IT specialist are professionals at using these commands to help identify problems.  I would look at this is like it is a foreign language if I have not read on these prior to this assignment.  I would have to see if I can use a computer at my residence to see if my end results would be different the one, I get from using this computer.  I want to say the time of day you use this command may affect with the results.  I recall that internet traffic later in the day is worse since more people are working and use the internet which may bog down signals.  Some domain sites may have specific security protocols to prevent hackers form gaining access to their servers.
